SGP Loop 2107-12_edited.jpg

The Loop Australia is a volunteer-based organisation. We have teams of chemists, health professionals and researchers based in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. Our teams work collaboratively towards our mission to deliver a world-class drug checking service and disseminate information about drugs to individuals, service providers and policy makers.

As a volunteer, you will become part of a network of Australians who are passionate about creating a safer society where everyone can access accurate, timely and relevant information to make more informed decisions about drugs. As well as utilising your own skills and contributing your own ideas, you'll learn and share knowledge with other like-minded volunteers and professionals.

There are many ways to get involved depending on your experience, availability, and interests. Our two broad categories of volunteers are organisers and event service volunteers.

We encourage applications from people with lived experience of drug use. We also encourage First Nations people, people with a disability, LGBTIQ+ and other sexuality, gender, and bodily diverse people, and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds to apply. If we can do anything to remove barriers and make the application process more accessible to you, please contact us confidentially.

Organisers work year-round behind the scenes. Our organising team is made up of people from many different professional backgrounds, united by a shared interest in introducing drug checking services to Australia. Organisers work together in action groups:

  • Chemistry

  • Healthcare and Harm Reduction

  • Research

  • Communications

  • Fundraising

Event service delivery volunteers work at events to provide drug checking and harm reduction services. Volunteers who provide services at events require minimum qualifications, and undertake an induction and training program developed with our sister organisation, The Loop UK.

  • Chemistry

  • Healthcare and Harm Reduction

  • Research
